Understanding the User
Gathering information about the user’s wants and needs is extremely important in the initial phases of design. With tools such as personas, user journeys, and surveys, we can get a better idea of how to provide the best experience for the end user.
Starting the Design
With this user information, it was then time to begin developing an initial idea of the user interface and flow of the platform. This began with creating hand-sketched wireframes and then transferring those ideas to digital wireframes.
Usability Studies
Once an initial design was developed, it was then time to put it in the hands of users to test the design’s efficacy. This resulted in studies for both the initial low-fidelity prototype as well as the more developed high-fidelity prototype and mockups.
Refining the Design
After conducting these studies, the user feedback collected was implemented into the interface design. This included removing extra wording in the Goals section and replace with a clearer, large font that was easier to digest as well as adding a distinctive color palette for each goal type. Users also enjoyed the Cookbook tab where they can save their recipes for reference.
Accessibility Considerations
Takeaways
1
Fruitful gives users a quick and easy way of getting personalized recipe recommendations and tracking their fitness goals.
2
After conducting usability studies and deciding on a color scheme, I learned the importance of not only considering how accessible my interface is but also how color plays a huge role in providing the user with context and guidance.
Next Steps
1
Conduct a usability study and explore adding a shopping feature to allow users to order specific ingredients recipes require right in the app.
2
Explore a ratings and social media feature where users can follow each other and see ratings of specific recipes.
